About Us
Welcome to PicoList, a notification service designed to
make nearby events and resources more visible and to help to co-ordinate delivery
of local services.
The origins of PicoList go back to the mid-1990s, when
some residents in the City of York started a water conservation pilot project.
As this project was initiated prior to amalgamation, it was
relatively easy to identify and enlist the support of
many local agencies and organizations willing to help
publicize it. As a result, thousands of notices were distributed
without great effort and expense by a very small group of citizens.
Today it would be much more difficult to start such a project.
Most of these helper organizations either
ceased to exist or were merged into larger entities as part of
amalgamation, and in the process became either unwilling
or unable to help a local group reach out to people within the community.
It's this information gap that PicoList is designed to fill.
PicoList makes it possible for organizations to let you
know what's happening in your area in a timely way while respecting
your privacy and your need to keep your inbox from
being inundated by mail you don't want.
PicoList is about assisting communication within your community.
We welcome your suggestions on how to make it better
and more responsive.
PicoList is a project of Tal Signal Incorporated, a
Toronto-based internet application development company.
